It is a high-boiling-point, multifunctional organic solvent widely used in coatings (leveling agent), inks (solvent carrier), cleaners (stain-removing enhancer), pharmaceuticals (extraction medium), as well as in metalworking fluids (anti-rust additive), chemical intermediates (synthesis reaction medium), and resin plasticizers (material softener).
